Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do Kooks headers require a tune after installation?
Yes. A professional tune is strongly recommended after installing long tube headers. The significant changes in exhaust flow affect air fuel ratios and require ECM recalibration to achieve optimal power output and safe operation. -
Will these Kooks headers void my factory powertrain warranty?
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer cannot void your vehicle's warranty simply because you installed an aftermarket part, unless they can prove the aftermarket component directly caused a failure. Consult your dealer for specifics. -
Are these headers emissions compliant?
Catted versions with Kooks GREEN or high flow catalytic converters comply with federal emissions standards but are not CARB certified for California. Catless versions are intended for off road or competition use only. Check your local regulations before purchase. -
What is Kooks' warranty on their headers?
Kooks headers are backed by a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser against defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty does not cover damage from improper installation, misuse, or racing applications. -
Do I need to remove the catalytic converters to install these headers?
Long tube headers replace the factory exhaust manifolds and generally require removal of the factory catalytic converters. Catted connection pipe versions include replacement high flow cats. Catless versions require the use of an off road test pipe or cat back system that accepts open collector input. -
How long does it take to install Kooks long tube headers?
A typical Kooks long tube header installation takes 4 to 8 hours for an experienced mechanic with a vehicle lift. Tight engine bay clearances on some platforms can increase install time. Always refer to the included Kooks instruction sheet for vehicle specific notes. -
Are gaskets included with Kooks headers?
Kooks headers include the necessary mounting hardware and installation instructions. Header to head gaskets may or may not be included depending on the specific kit. Check the product description's What's Included section and have OEM spec gaskets on hand as a precaution. -
Will Kooks headers work with my stock cat back exhaust?
Most Kooks connection pipe kits are designed to mate with the factory cat back exhaust inlet diameter. Verify the collector and connection pipe outlet diameter against your factory or aftermarket cat back system to ensure compatibility before ordering.
Install Instructions
Lift the vehicle and support it safely on jack stands. Allow the exhaust to cool fully before beginning removal of the factory components. Disconnect all oxygen sensor connectors before removing the factory manifolds or pipes. Install the Kooks headers using the provided hardware and gaskets, torquing in a cross pattern to specification. A professional tune is recommended after installation of long tube headers to maximize power gains and ensure proper air fuel ratios. Check all fasteners and connections after the first heat cycle.

Headers & Manifolds
Performance headers and exhaust manifolds are among the most effective bolt-on upgrades for improving exhaust scavenging, increasing horsepower, and giving your engine a more aggressive exhaust note. Whether you're building a street machine, a track car, or a diesel work truck, the right header or manifold set unlocks real performance gains across the RPM range. Popular Upgrades Top-selling header and manifold products include long-tube headers from BBK and Kooks for V8 muscle cars and trucks, stainless steel shorty headers from Stainless Works for tight engine bay fitments, high-flow cast iron exhaust manifolds for diesel platforms from BD Diesel and ATS Diesel, and turbo manifolds from aFe Power and Invidia for forced-induction builds requiring optimized turbo positioning. What is the difference between long-tube and shorty headers? Long-tube headers route exhaust primaries farther down the chassis before merging at a collector, which improves mid-range and top-end power but requi...
